Working as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist in one of Singapore’s busiest hospital for 15 years, Justin has seen a fair share of patients with pain and many of such cases, have underlying unhealthy health behaviors that drive the pain behavior.

 

He found that in order to treat pain in these patients, it cannot be done by merely managing their physical issues but the individual has to be looked at holistically and health behaviors has to be dealt with. This led him to dive deep into researching various aspects of health. Using what he has learnt to manage pain, he soon realizes that there is a greater need for preventative health as there is a large population who are living in subhealth (not healthy but not to the extent where disease is present). This passion in preventative health led him to start this practice to help individuals have a personalized approached towards health, because one size doesn’t fit all and everyone is unique.

 

His approach to health consists of restoring the natural balance of the body that is thrown out of balance by our typical industrialized and city living. This may include spending time in nature, nutritional advice, exercises, sleep management, breathing techniques, stress management and personalized health. He also believes that for behavioral change to be sustainable, it is more important to start with small changes as long as you are taking steps in the right direction of health, hence the name THE NEXT STEP.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a personal guide/ facilitator who help you make lifestyle changes to improve health.

What is personalized health?

Personalized health considers your genes, environment and lifestyle and formulates treatment and prevent strategies based on your unique background, conditions and current state of health. This is important as everyone is unique and a one size fits all approach may not work for everyone.

What can I expect from each session?

Health coaching will usually begin with getting to know you, your lifestyle and goals followed by strategic goal settings and periodic evaluations to attain positive behavioral change to improve health.

What is the difference between a health coach and a personal trainer?

A personal trainer focuses on the physical aspects of a person whereas a health coach takes a more holistic view of the individual with the main goal of improving their health.

Is there a standard program?

Everybody is unique and each program is customized to the individual based on health goals, amount of time committed and frequency of coaching required. During goal setting, your coach will discuss this with you. As we adopt a pay-as-you-use model, there will be no upfront payments and you may discontinue the health coaching at any time.

What if i have issues beyond the scope of a health coach?

If you have health conditions that require more specialized care, you will be referred on to the relevant healthcare professionals that can help you the best.
