Your genes are not the only factor that determines health. There are epigenetics which turn on or off certain genes and the good news is your lifestyle affects epigenetics. That is how twins who live different lifestyles can have very different health outcomes. How you live, what you eat, how you manage stress and the relationships you have can affect health. Health is not static. Making the right health choices can make the difference. Whether it's adopting healthier eating habits, engaging in physical activity, or managing stress, the malleability of health underscores the potential for positive transformation. Health is freedom

Health is undeniably synonymous with freedom, embodying a profound liberation that extends far beyond the absence of illness. True freedom encompasses the ability to live life to its fullest potential, unencumbered by the constraints of physical and mental limitations. A robust state of well-being fosters independence, allowing people to explore the boundless possibilities that life presents.When we are healthy we do not need to time our meals to a fixed medication schedule. We are able to perform activities of daily living well into our golden age. We can maintain mobility, and movements not reliant on walking aids or wheelchairs. Falls in elderly have been strongly correlated with poor strength and the best time to build strength is now. The more strength we build when we are young buffers us from the muscle wasting that occurs naturally when we age. Falls in the elderly may lead  to fractures, head injuries and ultimately morbidity which affects the freedom to do the things we are passionate about longer. Health grants the freedom to savor the richness of experiences, embrace challenges, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. In essence, health is the cornerstone of freedom, providing the foundation for a life marked by vitality, autonomy, and the pursuit of happiness.


Health is wealth

The term "health is wealth" encapsulates the invaluable nature of well-being as a priceless asset. True wealth extends beyond material possessions to encompass the richness of a healthy and fulfilling life. There are a lot of things money cannot buy and health is one of them. A robust state of health is a source of enduring prosperity, laying the foundation for a vibrant existence marked by vitality and resilience. In the tapestry of life, good health is the currency that enables individuals to fully participate in the world, pursue opportunities, and savor the joys of living. As Chinese New Year approaches, we commonly pair the greetings of “ Gong Xi Fa Cai” (prosperity)  with “ Sheng Ti Jian Kang” (health) because health truly is wealth.  It provides the energy and stamina necessary for productivity and success in various endeavors. Unlike material wealth, which can be acquired and lost, the wealth of health is a lasting investment that pays dividends in overall happiness, longevity, and the ability to overcome life's challenges. In today’s world, the cost of poor health is high. Medications and treatments are even more costly thanks to high inflation rates and one way to avoid these high costs is to remain healthy.  Ultimately, the adage reminds us that without health, the pursuit of other forms of wealth loses its true significance.
